Western Sydney Wanders head coach Tony Popovic says the club is not after Socceroos captain Lucas Neill.

The new A-League outfit has been linked with an off-season move for the former Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United, Everton and Galatasaray defender following his release from UAE club Al Jazira but Popovic has rubbished those claims.

“I haven’t had any discussions about Lucas at all,” Popovic told reporters.

“Obviously we’re speaking to players daily.

“It’s on course for us. I’ve said all along that come the first game we’ll have a squad that’s ready to play.”

Newcastle boss Pardew tells Liverpool to get real over Carroll price | Transfers | Tribal Football

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has told Liverpool to get real about Andy Carroll’s price.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has told Liverpool to get real about Andy Carroll’s price.

The Magpies have made it clear they are unwilling to meet Liverpool‘s rumoured asking price of £20m to secure a permanent switch.

Pards said: “Reading chairman John Madejski used to say to me about certain players, ’Just wipe your nose and move on’, and I think Liverpool are going to have to do that with Andy.

“I think it was obvious as soon as Brendan Rodgers went into Liverpool that Andy’s time was going to have to be somewhere else. I think it’s quite right we’re involved in that.

“But whether he comes here is something I will take or I will leave.

“It’s a lot of money, although we’ll obviously be getting a big upside in terms of what we sold him for, and we’ve got three great strikers here already.

“Of course, as the manager, I want the best players I can get.”

Liverpool owner Henry: FA Cup wouldn't have saved Dalglish | Premiership News | Tribal Football

Liverpool owner John W Henry admits the decision to sack Kenny Dalglish had been made before the end of last season.

Liverpool owner John W Henry admits the decision to sack Kenny Dalglish had been made before the end of last season.

Liverpool legend Dalglish was axed from his second spell in charge three days after the end of last season after the club finished eighth in the Barclays Premier League.

“We had a very poor second half to the season last year. But we did not attribute that to Kenny as such, the things he and Steve (Clarke) were doing,” Henry told the Daily Mail before Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Roma in Boston last night.

“The FA Cup would not have made any difference had he won it, no, no. We were 17th (in the form table) over the second half of the season and Liverpool should not be in that position.

“I don’t place the blame on Kenny and Steve – but I think it was obvious to every Liverpool fan that something was wrong and something needed to be done in the current circumstances.”
